America Land Of The Free?

Where do I begin? The war on terrorism been revealing itself to be a sham. But, no one is doing anything about it. Hurricane Katrina has highlighted the racial and economic divides that plagues this country. But, no one is is doing anything about it. The people that we have elected to represent us has screwed us continuously by allowing credit card companies to charge us ridiculous amounts of interest then change how we can file for bankruptcy giving our debtors more power while running the national debt up to astounding rates. But, no one is is doing anything about it. America's wealthy power elite feast off corporate welfare, tax loopholes, tax cuts, stock market shenanigans, offshore banking, military spending, desperate illegal immigrants offering cheap labor, crippling consumer debt, exporting of jobs and technology, unending federal budget deficits, and skyrocketing trade deficits. The rest of us remain economic slaves, workers, not owners. Meanwhile, they vote themselves a "cost of living" raise while minimum wage stays at a fucking meager $5.15 per hour. But, still no one is doing anything about it. As we remain detached from reality in a country whose very social fabric depends on the extraction of the most benefit/profit for the least cost, only the coldest and most mechanistic of minds would put the accumulation of such profits before the sanctity of life. America, how long will you slumber. Your leaders have become corrupt and drunk with power. Your rich are choking you with their greed and disregard for "the least of us". You are even destroying your earthly home in the name of profit. We should see corporate business as it really is, the business of making profits period and even though this maybe at the expense of the food we all eat or the air we all breathe, even though it appears like some suicidal death wish, its fucking business as usual. Once again, but, no one is is doing anything about it. As you continue to dumb yourself down with all this religious fundamentalism, superstition and pseudoscience. While your nation poisons itself with high calorie diets and "reality shows" the reality is that everything that we as your people say that we hold dearly is in jeopardy. Many of us aver that America is the greatest and most free country in the world having never left its shores or borders. We gloat by comparing ourselves to so-called third world nations and developing countries. But, how do we compare as a nation to parts of western europe and asia? We rank NEAR or AT the BOTTOM of DEVELOPED COUNTRIES in education, infant mortality, healthcare, economic disparities, and certain FREEDOMS that we thought were unique to us. By the way i do not write this out of hatred for America. Many people who are afraid of the things that I write or who willingly remain in the dark because they are afraid to step into the light of truth will label me unpatriotic. Yet the truth is i love America. It is my home. For better or for worse, there is no place I would rather be right now. But, I cannot let the lofty ideas that this country stand for be trampled on by the spirits of greed, apathy, inequality, and arrogance. For those who would argue that this isn't my country, I would say to them that through the blood, sweat and tears of my ancestors; African, Native American and European. I have just as much right to claim this country as anyone else. I hope that others out there agree with me.
